Independence House is the first phase of Independence Place, a special, planned community in Seminole, Florida, providing safe and supportive housing options for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD).
Independence House is more than just a house!
It is an opportunity for each resident to live independently in a safe, supportive environment they can call their own. Our goal is to provide a naturally therapeutic setting that allows residents to build lifelong friendships and increase self-sufficiency and independence for an excellent quality of life.

The reality of residential options for many individuals with IDD is not as simple as lacking a home but rather a living situation that does not set them up for success.
We know that each resident will have a different level of need for support and different funding sources for their services. Residents can bring their own existing support service providers through the Medicaid Waiver program. Additionally, CASL employs a private-pay caregiver on-site daily to help with everyday assistance and life skills. Parents can feel secure about long-term planning for their children as residents can choose to age in place.
Each resident has their own personal suite
Each suite consists of a living room, bedroom, bathroom, and convenience kitchen. The layout allows residents to have privacy in their own spaces while also encouraging social engagement through the home’s common areas. The common areas include a spacious living room, kitchen, dining room, laundry room, and a screened-in lanai. Residents can also unleash their creativity in the detached art building. Safety features such as a fire sprinkler system and an emergency generator are also included, and each unit has independent temperature controls. Nearby, residents can enjoy access to adult day training programs, supported employment, and convenient services.
